1.NETWORKING BY MEANS OF LED
Commercially available light-emitting diodes (LEDs) can do more than just generate light. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI have succeeded in transmitting broadband data streams within visible light via LED lamps to computers or other end devices that can receive data. “Visible light communication” is the name of this new transmission technology, which has been developed by Fraunhofer HHI scientists jointly with their industry partners Siemens and France Telecom Orange Labs as part of the EU’s OMEGA project.
The bandwidth at which data is sent is 100 Mb/s; in the laboratory, rates of up to 800 Mb/s have been achieved. The transmission technology is suitable both for dis-tributing broadband video streams and for bidirectional communication – from Internet usage to video conferencing.
This will change the mobile phone industry. As of now it havent emerge in the market yet but soon in mid 2012 it will be part of everyones life..... so, say good bye to FRAGILE smart HEAVY phone you have rightnow.
3.HERE COMES 5G
A full-duplex wireless technology has developed by Rice University this would allow wireless phone companies to double the output on their networks without adding any more cell towers. It will bring a high quality signal which is 10 times better than the previous one.
"Our solution requires minimal new hardware, both for mobile devices and for networks, which is why we've attracted the attention of just about every wireless company in the world," says Ashutosh Sabharwal, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Rice.
"The bigger change will be developing new wireless standards for full-duplex. I expect people may start seeing this when carriers upgrade to 4.5G or 5G networks in just a few years."
4.THE RISE OF CLOUD COMPUTING
The most practical way on how to solve a very difficult computing task is to allow number of users to join an open network. It has a potential, but the very main issue that flaunt here are those malicious users that may disrupt and screw up everything. We are not so sure enough whether we will trust this cloud technology. All depend on a certain level of trust, be sure your not an idiot to share everything, remember all your limits..
5. THE MEDICAL MIRROR
While it can't tell you if you're the fairest of them all, the Medical Mirror can tell you your heart rate, which is probably more valuable in the long run anyway. A webcam behind the mirror captures variations in reflected light on your face, and an algorithm translates that into heartbeats.
